Chair Makeover Part One: The Destruction

Destruction might be a bit harsh of a word, but that’s sure what it felt like ripping apart the entire cover to a chair.  I am recovering Tim’s cushy desk chair as a birthday present.  This is how it looked:

As you can see, the vinyl covering has started to flake off and rip all over the place.  Aside from being unpleasant to look at, it also scrapes a little bit.  So, it needs a new cover.  What Tim doesn’t need to know is that I have never done this before.  But, that didn’t stop me from completely ripping it apart.  I took notes and drew pictures of how things look, but I’m going to need a lot of good wishes from blog-land that I can put this back together again.  (This is like my own personal Humpty-Dumpty challenge, I guess.)

What I ended up with is in the picture below, along with a few bags full of stuffing and all the lining and zippers, which were in good shape, so I can re-use them.

Tonight we are off to the fabric store to pick up the new fabric, probably a dark red suede or something similar.  Look for it in part 2!
